Applications begin June 12 for October elk hunt near Knoxville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The fifth elk hunt in Tennessee will be Oct. 21-25 and the application period is in June.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency moved back the applications, which previously have been in April and May. Applications will now be taken June 12 through July 24.

It's a quota hunt and four of the winning applicants will be computer selected. The fifth participant will be the recipient of a permit that is donated to a nonprofit organization, which will be announced later. The hunt will be at the Cumberland Wildlife Management Area, north of Knoxville, off Interstate 75.

When the application period begins, hunters may apply at any TWRA license agent, TWRA regional office or online at www.tnelkhunt.org.

Elk hunting in Tennessee was reintroduced in 2009.
