Alabama back to work in pads

Alabama resumed spring football practice Monday with a two-hour workout in full pads.

"It was what you would expect for a day back after eight or nine days off," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said. "We probably took a step back having this break, and we need to get people back on track and doing the right thing."

Saban admitted it probably wasn't the best scenario returning from spring break with a full-pads workout but said the team has to get ready for Saturday's first scrimmage.

Receivers Christion Jones and Cyrus Jones continue to work with the secondary, as does tailback Dee Hart. Saban said two positions with a lot of competition right now are right tackle and left guard, where Arie Kouandjio and Kellen Williams are vying for the spot left by projected first-round pick Chance Warmack.

Saban was asked after practice about recent comments new Arkansas coach Bret Bielema made to a Razorback Club in Benton, Ark.

According to Hootens.com, a website that covers Arkansas sports, Bielema said, "I didn't come here to play Alabama. I came here to beat Alabama. You can take Saban's record when he was at Michigan State and when he was a coach in the Big Ten and put it against mine, and he can't compare."

Bielema tweeted Monday that he was only joking and that people should "chill."

"I'm really just concerned about what we do here with our players, and how we try to get the people in our organization to play at a high standard," Saban said. "I really don't defend anything I've ever done any place we've ever been. Everybody has different situations they're in, and everybody inherits different situations that they're in."
