MARIETTA, Ga. - A man has been convicted of killing another man who tried intervening in a fight with his girlfriend.

Cobb County District Attorney's Spokeswoman Kim Isaza says 19-year-old Darius Dionne Oliver, of Atlanta, has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm and criminal trespassing in the April 30, 2012 death of Ricardo Reese at an apartment complex in Austell.

Authorities say Oliver kicked in his girlfriend's apartment door and shot Reese twice in his chest when he approached to intervene. Oliver said he shot the unarmed man in self-defense.

Oliver has been in jail without bond since the day of the shooting and is scheduled to be sentenced May 2. Isaza says he could face up to 26 years in prison.
