Chattanooga Lookouts' opener with Huntsville rained out

Thursday night's season opener for the Chattanooga Lookouts against Huntsville at AT&T Field was postponed due to rain. The Lookouts will open tonight at 7:15 against the visiting Stars. Thursday's game will be made up Sunday afternoon as part of a doubleheader, with the first seven-inning game scheduled to start at 2:15.

• The first game of the TCCAA weekend baseball series matching co-leaders Chattanooga State and Walters State has been moved from today to Sunday at 2 p.m. because of wet conditions from Thursday's rain. The doubleheader remains set for noon Saturday at Chattanooga State, which is 26-8 overall and ranked 18th nationally. Walters is 24-10 and No. 9 in the NJCAA Division I poll. Each team is 11-4 in league play. Cleveland State (19-13, 7-7), tied for fifth, hosts Motlow (19-15, 5-10) this weekend.

Golf

• U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox, a senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, lost 1 up to British Amateur champion Alan Dunbar in the Georgia Cup exhibition match Thursday at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. Both will head to Augusta National Golf Club to prepare for competitive rounds in the Masters.

• David Mansfield of Cohutta tied for third in Flight 2 at 159 in the Georgia Super Senior Championship golf tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta. Mansfield led his flight and was tied for eighth overall after his opening 76.

Softball

• Former Ooltewah High School player Sara Kelley homered in each game and freshman Kaitie Sims from Baylor got both pitching wins, the second one in relief of Cassie Lyons, as the Carson-Newman softball team won 1-0 and 4-3 in 10 innings Wednesday at USC-Aiken. Aiken (20-16-1) outhit the Lady Eagles (26-12) 24-9.

• Bryan College's home Appalachian Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Thursday against Union College was postponed until Monday, starting at 3 p.m.

• UTC softball associate head coach Amy Herrington-Woodard will be the speaker at the UTC Mocs Club's "Breakfast With the Coach" Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Wally's Restaurant on McCallie Avenue. The public is invited to attend and order off the menu; reservations are not required.

Track & Field

• Bryan freshman Sarah White was the AAC women's track athlete of the week after Tennessee Wesleyan's Beth Sexton received that honor in the first voting period the week before. TWC also had the men's honoree the first week, distance runner Hilary Cheruiyot. White set the Lady Lions' 800-meter record at 2:17.96 in finishing second in the Rome-Shorter Relays last Saturday. Also at that meet, Tennessee Temple's Lotoya Crittenden was third in the shot put and Marissa Phinazee and Adrian Martin were third and fifth in the 100-meter dash and third and sixth in the 200.

Tennis

• For the third time in three voting periods this season, Tennessee Wesleyan had both AAC tennis players of the week. For March 25-31 it was Ekaterina Vezhenkova as the women's honoree for the second time and Gad Azulay as a first-time men's choice. Azulay won at No. 4 singles and 8-2 in doubles against Benedict and began this week 7-3 in singles and 8-2 in doubles. Vezhenkova is 11-0 in singles and 10-1 in doubles.
