Chattanooga police arrested a Hamilton County corrections officer on charges of aggravated domestic assault and harassment after she allegedly phoned her ex-girlfriend 20 times and tried to run her off the road, according to an arrest report.

Corrections Officer Angelita McGhee, 41, has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the criminal case and internal affairs investigation, said Janice Atkinson, spokeswoman for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The "rolling disorder" on March 30 began at 1750 N. Moore Road and ended at the intersection of Oak Street and Glenwood Drive, according to the report.

The 39-year-old woman told officers McGhee tried to run her off the road and block her in to force her to stop.

When police arrived, McGhee was screaming at the woman through the passenger's window. She initially ignored officers' commands to place her hands on the car, though later calmed down, according to the arrest report.

The woman told police she had broken up with McGhee the day before and subsequently had received 20 calls in 10 hours. She agreed to meet McGhee at a McDonald's and go with her to retrieve belongings at a Hixson residence.

Afterward, McGhee followed the woman and another woman in a car and began making threats, the report states.

McGhee's personally owned .40-caliber Glock handgun was under her driver's seat. She has been arrested before over the same woman, according to the report.

McGhee could not be reached for comment.

When Atkinson was asked why McGhee was still employed as a corrections officer if she had prior domestic arrests, she responded, "I can't comment on it because I don't know what her arrest history is or is not."

Sheriff Jim Hammond did not respond to messages seeking comment.

McGhee is scheduled to appear May 29 before General Sessions Judge David Bales.
