ATLANTA - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for areas of northwest Georgia.
The tornado warning covers Carroll, Harrison and Paulding counties and expires at 6:45 p.m.
Forecasters have said damaging winds would be the main threat as storms moved into Georgia Thursday evening. Tornado watches have been issued for other parts of northwest Georgia - including the metro Atlanta region - and are in effect until 11 p.m.
Meteorologists say rainfall amounts could be heavy, especially across parts of the north and central Georgia, where widespread areas of up to 2 inches of rain are expected.
The storm is part of a system that downed trees in and knocked out power in west Alabama.
