GPS Bruisers healthy after Chadwell tennis title

The GPS tennis team went to Nashville over the weekend and won the Patty Chadwell Invitational tournament.

The Bruisers finished with 31 points, defeating Harpeth Hall, Knoxville Webb and Hutchison in the process. And they got everybody healthy. Emma McCallie, who strained a hamstring during the Rotary tennis tournament the previous weekend, returned to the lineup, although she was limited to playing doubles.

Michelle Fleenor, who missed the Baylor match last week with the flu, went 6-0 in Nashville. The tournament format featured eight singles and four doubles matches, so coach Sue Bartlett was able to dig a little deeper into her lineup.

"I thought we played really well," she said. "Between playing the Rotary, Baylor and Patty Chadwell, we've got some that are tired and so we tried to rest some. That's like the Grand Slam in tennis, but I thought we've had a great couple of weeks."

Analiesa Stratienko, Maggie McBrayer and Virginia Hammond also posted unbeaten records for the weekend, while Hannah Morrow, Mary Claire Spann, Jennie McBrayer and Danielle Simms each had only one loss.
