Cleveland police arrested a man and woman this afternoon involved in stabbing two people in a Bi-Lo parking lot.

Officers charged Nathan Goforth with two counts of aggravated assault and 41-year-old Melissa Dawn Patterson with accessory after the fact. A series of Cleveland police releases give this account:

Bridget Wagner and Angela Thomas went to Bi-Lo, located at 2310 Mcgrady Drive, arouind 9:30 p.m. Thursday. When they returned to their car, Wagner heard screams. She ran around to the driver's side of the car, where she found Goforth stabbing Thomas.

Goforth is Wagner's ex-boyfriend, and she tried to stop him. He then turned his attention to Wagner and stabbed her too. Thomas then stepped in, and again Goforth stabbed her.

After Goforth stabbed both women, Patterson pulled up in a burgundy Chevrolet Tahoe.

"Get in!" she yelled at Thomas.

Paramedics drove Thomas and Wagner, both of Cleveland, to SkyRidge Medical Center, where doctors treated them for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sixteen hours later, around 1 p.m. today, Cleveland police received a call. A person whose identity officers are protecting told police that the Tahoe sat parked near Appalachian Highway 40 outside the Whitewater Lodge. There, officers found Goforth and Patterson.

On Thursday night, two 4-year-olds sat inside the car driven by Thomas and Wagner, and the Tennessee Department of Children's Services responded to the parking lot. Neither child was hurt, but they witnessed the entire attack, a release said.
