Storms bring threat of some wind damage to Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Some wind damage was being reported as storms moved across Alabama this morning.

However, forecasters said the chances for tornadoes appeared to be diminishing.

The National Weather Service said a small chance for severe thunderstorms would continue through noon as the system moves across Alabama. A hazardous weather advisory said the storms could produce isolated damaging winds and there was “a very small chance” for an isolated tornado.

Reports to the weather service indicate that winds estimated at 35 mph toppled trees in Fayette County around 10:45 p.m. Thursday. No injuries were reported.
