Chattanooga State splits at Roane

Perennial TCCAA power Chattanooga State softball team fell 6-1 at Roane State on Saturday in the first game of their two-doubleheader weekend series, but the reigning junior college national champions bounced back emphatically with a 9-1 win as Lacye Walker went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBIs and a run scored and Marina Wilkerson went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs.

Shelby Willard pitched a two-hitter with no earned runs in that second game, and Shelby Robertson was 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run and Elyse Ferguson homered and doubled as the Lady Tigers improved to 31-11 overall and 22-6 in the league. They are in third place needing to be in the top four to make the region tournament field.

Emily Dagnan was 3-for-3 with a homer in the first game, but that was half of Chattanooga State's hits.

* Cleveland State 3-2, Dyersburg State 2-0: At Cleveland, the Lady Cougars swept their TCCAA doubleheader as Ida Watson pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and Kelsey Capella followed with a three-hit shutout.

Singles by Leslie Still and Sydney Howell led to the first run of the day for Cleveland State (16-23, 11-18), and Maura Ditto's two-run double ended the first game. PIage Mayer's RBI single in the fourth inning and Amber Covington's homer in the sixth comprised the second-game scoring.

* Lee 15-11, Emmanuel 0-12: At Franklin Springs, Ga., the visiting Lady Flames piled up 34 hits in the doubleheader and won easily in the first game as Caroline MacAusland pitched a five-inning one-hitter, but the Lady Lions (11-31) prevented a sweep by scoring six runs in the seventh inning of game two.

Meghan Macias and Savanna Bell were each 3-for-4 with two runs and four and three RBIs in the win for Lee (37-8), when Ana Coscorrosa was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, Laurel Allen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Dominique Hannah was 1-for-2 and scored three times, Amanda Lynn was 2-for-2 and Lizzie Stevens scored twice after replacing Lynn at second base. Bell had a triple and Coscorrosa doubled twice.

Lynn was 5-for-5 and scored two runs in the loss, when Macias and Hannah each had two hits and three RBIs -- Macias with a homer -- Coscorrosa added two RBIs and Jennifer Ringle was 3-for-5 with two doubles. Emmanuel leadoff batter Madison Franklin was 3-for-4 with two homers, a double, seven RBIs and four runs scored.

* Mid-Continent 3-3, Tennessee Temple 2-5: At Mayfield, Ky., Amanda Rector was 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBIs and Carley Daniel pitched a three-hitter as the Lady Crusaders rebounded from the first-game loss. Raven Pope was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Haley Huskey was 3-for-4 and scored a run, Ashlen Mitchell had two hits and two RBIs and Heather Smith was 2-for-3 for Temple (24-15) in the loss.

* Agnes Scott 11-3, Covenant 3-2: At Decatur, Ga., Lauren Johns' two-run homer in the second game was the only scoring for the visiting Lady Scots as they fell to 6-28, 5-11 in the Great South Athletic Conference, in the second loss Saturday. Chandler Shepherd and reigning GSAC player of the week Jenni Jobe each was 2-for-4 in that game, and Madison Quirk, Courtney Wagoner and Morgan Lane each had two hits and an RBI in the opener.

Jobe was 11-for-18 the previous week with four triples, 11 RBIs, 11 runs and four stolen bases in six games.

* Centre 16-9, Sewanee 0-0: At Sewanee, the host Tigers fell to 5-25 overall and 0-22 in the Southern Athletic Association although Grace Cobbs was 2-for-3 in game two.
