ATLANTA - Passengers at Atlanta's airport could experience travel delays on the first weekday after furloughs for thousands of air traffic controllers.

The cutbacks began Sunday because of federal budget cuts required by Congress, and flights were running normally.

But industry groups say weekend travel is typically light. Problems could begin today as business travelers head to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport by the thousands.

Maximum delays of more than three hours are predicted for some flights to Atlanta, which is the world's busiest airport based on passenger totals.

But an FAA analysis says many flights through Atlanta will suffer no delays or only brief ones.

The airline industry and the nation's largest pilots union are suing the Federal Aviation Administration over furloughs for control tower workers.
