about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

As an American, and particularly in light of the recent radical Islamic terrorist attacks in Boston, I am very concerned about Clay Bennett's mental well being. His rage, hate, and outright distain for tax paying, productive, God fearing American's that happen to identify and support the Republican party is to the point of radical and possibly violent behavior. I, as a concerned Chattanoogan recommend that the Times Free Press enroll Clay into a sensitivity training class before it is too late. Fort Hood, TX shooter, Nadal Hassan, presented with the same bizzare clinically depressed behavior prior to his "episode of workplace violence" and I fear that Mr. Bennett, with his obvious delusional bigotry toward Republicans might out act his fantasies against Republicans employed at the paper, what few there are. TFP, respond to Clay's liberal mental illness immediately before it is too late. The beard is a concern. Warning! Do not let him near a pressure cooker especially when there are Republicans present!

Liberals suffer from a number of maladies and delusions, but several are painfully obvious. First, not only are they incapable of taking care of themselves, they cannot comprehend why they should be FORCED to take care of themselves. They are terrified of everything that is not pre-processed, homogenized and approved by an official governmental entity. "Governmental Entity," by the way, is defined as Martin Sheen, a guy who's not the President but plays one on TV.

That the recycling truck might be an hour late propels liberals into a state of near hysteria. That someone might actually own a gun sends them running to the therapist for Prozac, grief-counseling and Deepak Chopra seminars. They seek order, safety and security at any cost, rather than individuality, liberty and freedom.

The goals of a totalitarian, Fascist state are reflected in the ramblings of liberal politicians and Hollywood idiots. They say they want peace, but the sort of peace they seek is more akin to slavery then it is the ideals upon which America was founded.

Two perfectly legal immigrants, one of whom in hindsight offered warning signs, murder three people, and Mr Bennett worries that illegal immigrants aren't being sufficiently welcomed? If they enter his house without invitation, would he worry about that? (It wasn't martial law that caught the younger murderer. It was a guy with a $50,000 boat.)

Maybe Mr Bennett should worry about the assault rifles our Attorney General shipped to Mexico, or the faux Eric Holder who was invited to vote without ID. Oh, well. Standards are things liberal hypocrites, on their road to Hell, want to impose on Republicans. Jesus (is libertarian) didn't like hypocrisy, and He warned about Hell. Repent, guys. This means you, Mr Bennett.

So true and the really sad part is the fact they just don't get it in their heads the majority of the country has moved on, while they are still pining for a past that will NEVER be again and has not been for a very, very long time.

Until they get it, they will remain in that big tent of clowns, Mr. Bennett drew the other day and they will continue to lose National elections and eventually state elections in places like Texas, Florida, Arizona and other places where the population has become increasingly diverse. It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of clowns.

Your beliefs are not supported any longer. Even Fox News is reporting this morning that the two brothers had no ties to any organized faction of radical Islam.

For a lack of a better way to put it, the older brother was a wannabe.

You know what that's all about, dontcha? You wannabe Richy Rich.

"His rage, hate, and outright distain (sic) for tax paying, productive, God fearing American's that happen to identify and support the Republican party is to the point of radical and possibly violent behavior."

You really need to invest in a spell-checking program, that is if you want to continue to pass yourself off as a Vanderbilt Grad.

The word you were seeking to use is "disdain."

"I, as a concerned Chattanoogan recommend that the Times Free Press enroll Clay into a sensitivity training class before it is too late."

And of course, your status in life is such that the management of the Times Free Press will immediately act upon your recommedations posthaste...eh?

"Fort Hood, TX shooter, Nadal Hassan, presented with the same bizzare clinically depressed behavior prior to his "episode of workplace violence" and I fear that Mr. Bennett, with his obvious delusional bigotry toward Republicans might out act his fantasies against Republicans employed at the paper, what few there are."

And if you Sir, are representative of what constitutes a fine, upstanding Republican, I have no doubt that there are people who will certainly distance themselves from supporting fellow Republicans like you and/or will refrain from identifying themselves likewise.

"TFP, respond to Clay's liberal mental illness immediately before it is too late. The beard is a concern. Warning! Do not let him near a pressure cooker especially when there are Republicans present!"

I guess you have abandoned your new career as a prostitute and have instead embarked on a new quest to become a comedian.

At the McDonalds on Ringgold rd. there is a bush at the base of their large sign. Near the base of the bush there is a 6” round flat stone. We can pass messages back and forth by placing them under the rock. Use Google translate to convert your messages to Icelandic before printing them out unless you are fluent in that language. That way we can keep our correspondence secret in case some illegal alien doing gardening finds them. Please place a pepsi bottle cap on top of the rock to signal a message is available. Good luck in claiming your prize.

Sigh, it seems we have some junior executives that have issues (comprehension) with the arts, music, literature, satire and (brown) foreigners. They need not fear or disparage the tide of liberalism any longer because the following happened yesterday in Washington.

In an effort to dismantle what they don’t understand, strike a blow to ‘liberal elitist college types’ and return American values, Republican controlled committees on Posteriors, Environmental degradation and other oily agencies headed by cranky white guys that demand jurisdiction over funding provided for the NEA, brought a truly patriotic bill to the floor - to banish poets from the United States.

The legislation to ban poets (and poetry) is to be expected– I’d say inevitable–given the recent court decisions regarding “what the heck does that mean” poetry and “self-indulgent” Limric’s he he he – reference: (Alprova v. Conservative, divinity case, 6000BC -2013 AD); (Easy123 v. Joneses/JonRoss, U.S. 007, 2013). The bill contends that poetry is subversive and critical of Conservatism and antagonizes most of the Tea Party elite. In this regard, a review of another recent case regarding the “Truth to Power” (see Max Imus v. State of reality, Rule Au, dates ongoing) is particularly instructive.

Although public sentiments about poetry change with the times and with economies, the right wings groundswell of opinion against poetry seems to have been co-opted by a small but vociferous anti-poetry faction who will, at every opportunity, swing their budgetary axes for personal gain and cut funding for the arts.

Rep. Bernie Sanders was heard saying, ”Where would be without contemporary Republicans and the good people who vote for them? Alas, would levity vanish?” Immediately Sen. Mitch McConnell mumbled to an aide, ”What the hell does that mean?”Isn’t a levity a tax?”

In an effort to gain popular support, Lindsey Graham & John McCain appeared on FOX and Friends, and said, “We cannot abide the damage atheist poets are doing to the God-fearing people of America. They are the illegal immigrants [I had to work in today’s topic somewhere] of literature.” Graham went to say, “In light of recent events in Boston, we don’t know for sure whether poets aren’t some Islamic radicals or not. You’d have to ask them. But poets bent on changing the very language our Founding Fathers gave us at this nation’s birth with prose is…un-American.” McCain also added that Congress was seriously considering legislation to replace “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the National Anthem with Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.” “Now that’s rhyming,” he said.

While there are reputable people in the coin biz, if what you have is valuable, many would try to undervalue what you have and attempt to buy them for far less than what they are worth.

The safest and most reliable way I know to research the value of what you have would be to buy an Official Red Book, which is very reliable for determining the value of what you have.

They are filled with photographs that can be used to identify what you have and each section tells you how to grade your coins to determine their net worth.

These books are available directly from the publisher and they are the Bibles of coin collecting.

Illegal aliens are just that..illegal. Unless we have open borders I don't really know what else we can do but send them back and keep them out. The excuse usually is that these aliens take jobs Americans won't take. That is only right because we give too much welfare and it is more lucrative than working. We need to reduce welfare and then we wouldn't need hoards of aliens coming across our border. People would decide that working was a good thing. It is that simple.

Not to mention the fact that big business uses this low paid help to save money. Illegal aliens drive down pay for Americans.

I don't know exactly what to do about it but I do know that all the democrats see here is more votes, they don't give a damn about the aliens. Depicting anything else is worse than dishonest.

limric...No one is outlawing poetry....that was pretty dramatic. They want to outlaw using government money to pay for it.

The problem some of you art lovers have is you don't realize that public art needs a consensus. In other words, some agreement that the vast majority of people agree and see it as art. A bunch of pointy headed art snobs thinking it is good is not enough. As the saying goes, "it is in the eye of the beholder." It needs a majority of "beholders" agreeing that it is relevant before public money should even be considered. Poems that ridicule and insult (Similar to a Bennett Cartoon) are not going to have overwhelming support.

You are going to say that art needs to be controversial to make people "think." Well maybe they don't think like you do and don't see it as art.

I love art and music and have participated in both, but on my own time and on my own dime. When government funds are used it has to be with the agreement of the public. Not a bunch of stuff that 90% of the people think is crap. If that type of stuff is important and relevant you won't have trouble finding private funding.

I love music but you might think that Rap is great music, I think it is crap. It is too controversial to have public money spent on it. You want public art to "shock" or stick the "man" in the eye. That is fine but maybe the rest of us don't want to have to listen or see it. As you Dems and liberals like to say, majority rules.

Also, if you notice, it was the conservative side that was complaining..not big spending Harry Austin. Also the commentary was 3 out of 4 conservative.

Let me put my voice to this...big spending Republicans (they are not conservative by the way) are worse than big spending democrats. Why? Because liberals/Democrats don't lie about their fiscal policies..they want to increase taxes and spending and don't care who knows it. Republicans want to the same thing but lie about it. The example was Bush..he was awful but Obama spent even more.

There is no difference in Republicans buying votes or Democrats buying votes. The problem is that there are few on the left that admit that fact about themselves. It is easy for us libertarian leaning folks to see it.

If poetry is what you want to support..With government money you try to court....Insults and shock will not prevail.... Without the majority it will surely fail.....So if you want your poetry to flourish......Seek private funding if you want to nourish

Without private funding your attempt will fail.....And you liberals will continue to wail and wail.

I was a poet and didn't know it..I make a rhyme every time.

I think I will do all my answers with poetry...

The medium is the message. If a person speaks or writes poorly they will not be taken seriously by most people. That's just the way the world is.

If a native English-speaker cannot master the rules of grammar then why would anyone assume that he has mastered logic or reading for comprehension?

I predict that Maximus will now claim that he is not a native English speaker and that he is, in fact, mostly fluent in seven languages.

My artsy fartsy post was a purely satirical response to a singular rambling diatribe lumping ‘job producing business owners, the governor, the non Hillary Clinton campaign, the Mounties, weak kneed libs, radical Islamic terrorists that are going to kill us, Richie havens poetry and my possible inebriation…all in one paragraph of slush pile linguistics.

” They want to outlaw using government money to pay for it.” Ok fine. I don’t want government (our) money going to corporate subsidies; which outspends art funding by a factor of 100 or more. See how that works? By saying that does not mean I endorse all artistic funding. See how that works too?

”When government funds are used it has to be with the agreement of the public.” I think you need to think that statement through. See ‘subsidies’ above?

” You are going to say that art needs to be controversial to make people think." Nope. Some publicly funded art is absolutely atrocious. And some funding should be returned. See how that works?

” I love music but you might think that Rap is great music, I think it is crap.” I hate rap music just as much. I find NOTHING melodic or uplifting – or anything in it at all. Hmm…then again maybe that’s because I’m a hate filled liberal huh?

”As you Dems and liberals like to say, majority rules.”

Someone recently said: ”Remember, the Founders worried that some common impulse of passion could lead the many to subvert the rights of the few." [‘AKA majority rule’] "They were some pretty smart men, and I for one am not willing to second guess this wisdom.”

As an aside, I think that when we boil all beliefs and opinions down to one label we have already lost the ability to arrive near the truth.

There are no true Republicans, no true Democrats, conservatives or liberals. There is not even one axis of belief but a multitude of dimensions of thought and action. If one's opinions change a bit from day to day that is natural.

The only unnatural state is to always be in constant agreement with one source of opinion, because then you are no better than an automaton. A useless copy-and-paste keyboard macro, parroting your master's voice ad infinitum, adding nothing.

The point here is that liberal art is favored because the art community is liberal. The fact is that half the country thinks it's crap and they shouldn't have to pay for any of it.

I wonder how you would feel if all of the art was conservative Christian. I can hear the howling now.....

leaf...I agree again..The problem is that politically both sides play us in a cynical game of good cop/bad cop. They switch sides on issues just because the other side is in power. The debt limit was a prime example.

I think that the budget and economy has to be dealt with in a careful way. Budgets can't be cut indiscriminately but have to be cut. Taxes don't need to be raised and then used to increase spending. That is the compromise...cut Budgets carefully..raise taxes that go directly to the debt. Both sides would be semi-happy.

In any event, if the constitution continues to be trashed as in the Boston manhunt none of this will matter anyway. We will be living in a police state.

timboner,

"why don't you educate me on how local, state and national art funding works?"

I'd actually like you hear your interpretation of how it works.

"Are you saying that the twisted metal in the medians in Chattanooga was not by a single artist?"

Those works were commissioned by the city. Those artists don't receive constant public funding. It was a one time thing. Individual artists, writers, etc. cannot survive without private buyers. They aren't being propped up through government funding contrary to what you think.

"Do you mean little munchkins got together in the middle of the night and did the work?"

You really don't get it.

"How do you do "corporate" art anyway?"

Corporate art is art that is owned by a company. Companies buy art to put up in their offices, etc. Are you that stupid? Art is art.

"The point here is that liberal art is favored because the art community is liberal."

There is no such thing as "liberal" art. The Liberal Arts is has nothing to do with "liberal" or "conservative", moron.

"The fact is that half the country thinks it's crap and they shouldn't have to pay for any of it."

Did you do a poll? Again, you don't understand how Arts funding works. How do you feel about the Tivoli, Hunter Art Museum, the Riverfront, Allied Arts, high school band and drama programs, ballet, opera, etc.? And those are just examples of the Arts in the Chattanooga area. Non-profit Arts organizations receive the bulk of public funding, not individuals.

"I wonder how you would feel if all of the art was conservative Christian. I can hear the howling now....."

The vast majority of all art throughout the history of the world has a Christian theme. Ever heard of the Renaissance? Jesus was really popular then! The Catholic Church has commissioned more artists over the years than any company or government. There isn't any howling and there never has been. There is no such thing as "conservative Christian" art. Are you a WingNut robot or something? You have no clue how the real world works.

"As a matter of fact, I am embarrassed that I am in the same species with you."

There is no possible way that a sentient human being can be as ignorant as you are. It's truly unbelievable.

Stop typing words that would lead other people to think something is mentally wrong with you and I'll stop typing words that convey my belief that there is, in fact, something mentally wrong with you, deal?

"No creativity from a lying liberal is unusual."

That is truly the most ironic statement that you could type. Do I need to explain why? Hell, I know I probably do, but what's the use?

"Supposedly Hitler, another big government liberal, deemed himself to be "logical" too."

See what I mean about you being mentally retarded?

He was also filled with another substance that you are full of as well. I'll give you three guesses.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev apparently plotted and carried out an evil act of terrorism. He garnered the attention of the FBI a couple of years ago and was questioned, researched, and was not found to be a threat.

Did the FBI "drop the ball" as some people are so quick to rush to judgment, or was a 24 year old college student able to convince the FBI that he was no threat to anyone? Clearly, that is what happened.

It does not appear that he had any contact whatsoever with any group that has known ties to terrorism, despite the FBI's best efforts to determine otherwise.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev's own wife was not remotely aware that her husband held radical religious views. He apparently was a man who existed on his own island, so to speak.

Investigation since last Friday has not turned up one single piece of evidence to suggest that either one of these two brothers are members of any radical group associated with Islam.

His reasons for doing what he did, died when he did. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev may be able to provide some of the missing details of what his brother had on his mind, but not all.

Maximus, you and all the other folks so eager to blame every Democrat all the way to the President for either one of the Tsarnaev brothers not being labeled terrorists until they set those bombs, are doing nothing but making yourselves look like idiots.

In the United States of America, it is not our custom or practice to arrest someone who has committed no crime, nor even suspected of planning one. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was never even suspected by a soul to have been capable or willing to carry out the evil act he did.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev did receive the perusal that he apparently was able to deflect effectively, because he had no ties to radical Islam.

Chances are, there are many people in this nation, just as legally as these two brothers were, or even home grown citizens, who may be harboring some of the same hatred for America as apparently Tamerlan Tsarnaev did, and they too are not on Homeland Security's radar.

If they are careful not to cross certain lines that will expose them, and since nobody I am aware of can read people's minds by simply looking at them, they too may one day carry out planned acts of evil without being detected beforehand.

Are we to deport anyone and everyone who was not born in this country? I'm sure that some of you think so.

Keep twirling like a top, if you must. Keep bashing the President, like you always have. You're hurting no one but yourself, when all is said and done.

These next three and three-quarter years are going to be very stressful for some of you, for not one of you is going to change a doggone thing done by our leaders, and that's the bottom line.

The closest you have probably ever come to taking up arms against any enemy, probably starts and ends with something you can hold in your hands...a game control.

It takes a very small mind to post the things you do and to lie to the degree that you have been proven to have done.

If you were a pimple on Barack Obama's ass, he would pop you and wipe you away with an alcohol pad. Excuse me everyone, for my crudeness, but it is necessary to explain to the man, what his true place in life is, and how utterly insignificant he truly is.

The kind of cyber-bravado that you express on a daily basis will never convince a soul that you resemble a man.
