Ex-UA president interviewing for New Mexico post

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former University of Alabama President Guy Bailey is one of five presidential finalists at New Mexico State University.

Bailey, of Montgomery, resigned from presidency at the University of Alabama after less than two months in office in 2012. He’s still a tenured linguistics professor at the school. Bailey said he left the position to care for his ailing wife. He says his wife’s medical condition has improved and that has allowed him to look for a new position.

Bailey interviewed with New Mexico State officials Wednesday and his employment agreement with the University of Alabama extends through August.

Bailey previously served as president of Texas Tech University.
