MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis man who was allowed probation on a conviction of stealing a house from the government has apparently moved his family back into the home.

WMC-TV reported that, on Monday, Devitoe Farmer was sentenced to four years in prison for theft of government property. However, Shelby County Criminal Court Judge James C. Beasley allowed Farmer probation.

District Attorney General Amy Weirich said prosecutors had asked for prison time for Farmer.

Neighbors told the TV station Farmer and his family are back, using a gasoline generator because the utilities have been cut off at the house, which is owned by Fannie Mae. No one answered a knock at the door by the station.

County Register of Deeds Tom Leatherwood said Farmer quit-claimed six houses from himself to himself.
