Art comes alive at annual fundraiser for Craniofacial Foundation

How vibrant is the art at Palate 2 Palette?

To borrow a movie phrase: "It's alive! It's alive!"

This sixth annual fundraiser for the Craniofacial Foundation of America, set for Saturday, April 27, will tempt the eyes with a sumptuous showcase of visual, floral and culinary arts. Yet these sights may be overshadowed by the living art on display.

New Orleans artist Craig Tracy, who has helped elevate body painting to a fine art, will be the special guest, and a new addition to the event is a Garden Gallery with a Living Fountain.

Starting at 5 p.m., Palate 2 Palette will offer a Gallery Stroll with eight stops from Warehouse Row to the historic Southside district. Visitors may walk among the galleries -- some set up solely for the occasion -- or catch a ride on a double-decker bus to view the featured fine art, culinary creations and floral designs while meeting with artists and enjoying fine wine and cuisine.

Among the stops is a Youth Gallery at The Church on Main that will display artwork from area high school students. A reception will be held on Friday, April 26, to preview this juried exhibit.

Tracy, whose work appeared in a four-page Fiat ad in this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, will be in the Living Art Gallery at Warehouse Row. During the evening, he will create a living masterpiece just for Palate 2 Palette guests.

The Garden Gallery, set up at DeBarge Winery, will likewise feature a live model in the Living Fountain. The cascade of water will emanate from a woman for whom the word "statuesque" will have literal meaning.

The new Foundation Gallery at Cobblestone Rue will display photographs of CFA patients taken by Garrett Nudd, plus collaborative artwork between CFA children and Chattanooga artists Miki Boni, Terry Cannon, Carylon Killebrew and Brent Sanders.

After the Gallery Stroll, guests are invited to the Bubbles & Sweets after-party at Track 29, 1400 Market St. The party takes its name from the champagne and desserts that are served.

Dancers, aerialists and musician Christian Collier will kick-start the entertainment. Willie Kitchens and his band will provide music for dancing.

Proceeds from Palate 2 Palette benefit the CFA, a nonprofit organization that supports the work of the Tennessee Craniofacial Center at Children's Hospital at Erlanger and Erlanger Health System. The TCC specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients of all ages who have craniofacial deformities resulting from birth defects, tumors or trauma.
