McCallie senior Jorden Williams has an extensive shoe collection and has danced on the Jimmy Fallon Show. So although Monday was a different day for him, he was prepared for it.

Williams signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at NCAA Division III member Sewanee. He averaged 16.7 points, three assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals for the Blue Tornado his senior season, shooting 39 percent from 3-point range.

At McCallie he played behind three guards who went on to NCAA Division I schools -- Jorden Price (Auburn), C.J. Reese (Southeast Missouri State) and Cordell James (Morehead State) -- so it wasn't until his final year that he could showcase his talents.

He received some late interest from Catawba of Division II but stuck with the academic powerhouse near home.

"Catawba is a great school, but I just fit the system at Sewanee better," he said. "I've been through a lot of experiences here at McCallie, but they've all made me better."

He had a chance to express some of those experiences during a chapel talk in front of the student body Monday morning, prior to his signing.

"I really had to work on my game during my career here," he said. "When I get to Sewanee, I want to make an impact. It could be my coming-out party."

Williams was part of coach Dan Wadley's first sixth-grade team at McCallie.

"I'm excited about Jorden getting a chance to play at a great school and get his education," Wadley said. "He waited his time and got a chance because of his work and devotion.

"He was very fun to coach, and I'm going to miss him here."

Williams will join Baylor's Clay Born as a Tigers freshman. Clay's brother Leo was a freshman on the 2012-13 Sewanee team that finished 19-7.
