Former Tennessee special ed teacher charged with abuse

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Shelby County grand jury has indicted a former special education teacher in Bartlett after reports that students were assaulted.

According to The Commercial Appeal, 39-year-old Clancey Patterson of Bartlett was indicted Friday on seven counts of official repression, two counts of child abuse and five counts of simple assault.

The Bartlett Police Department said the charges stem from allegations of assault on students at Bon Lin Elementary School in April. The school is part of the Shelby County public school system.

A school district spokesman said Patterson has been suspended since April 5. The school website no longer lists her as a member of the faculty.

The newspaper said the case began after two teacher assistants at the school complained.

Police declined to release additional information.
