Man who left wreck arrested

CEDARTOWN, Ga. - Authorities say they’ve apprehended a man accused of pulling two children out of his vehicle after he crashed it and then leaving the kids at the wreck.

State patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said one of the children, a 6-year-old boy, later died at a hospital. A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured in the one-car wreck along Tallapoosa Highway near Cedartown Sunday morning.

Wright said a witness told troopers the driver, Robert Nelson Wood, 42, of Tallapoosa, pulled two children from the car and ran away.

The state patrol said he was found about three-quarters of a mile from the crash site after a manhunt.

The girl is being treated at Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.

Wallet found after 24 years

ACWORTH, Ga. - A Georgia man who lost his wallet while waterskiing in North Carolina has it back — 24 years later.

Burton Maugans, of Acworth, told WSB-TV that he received a call from a stranger who knew his age, his name and his birthdate. Maugans said he realized fairly quickly the stranger had found his wallet.

North Carolina resident Jim Parker found the wallet recently and searched the Internet for its owner.

The wallet arrived in the mail Thursday, and still contained Maugans’ high school identification from 1987, a library card — even an old bank card.

Naked man arrested in Bobcat

KNOXVILLE - Joseph Michael Hall told police he stole a Bobcat front-end loader from a landscaping nursery in Knox County because he was naked.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported police found Hall, 19, driving the machine along a highway shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday, sans clothing.

A caller to 911 reported someone smashed through a fence with the machine and drove off in it. Hall was arrested less than a mile away, and the owner was called to come and retrieve his machine.

It wasn’t immediately known where or why Hall lost his clothes. Among the charges are felony theft, DUI and indecent exposure.

Motorcyclist killed in wreck

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - A motorcycle crash on U.S. 129 has killed a suburban Atlanta man.

The Knoxville News Sentinel cited a Blount County Sheriff’s Office document in reporting Patrick Brian Noll, 46, of Dallas, Ga., died Saturday night on a curvy stretch of the Smoky Mountains road, nicknamed "The Dragon."

The police report stated that as Noll began slowing for a curve, the rear wheel locked, sending the motorcycle into a skid. Noll was thrown into a large tree and then down an embankment. He was wearing a helmet.

Noll was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
