Golf Notes: UTC's Jordan Britt out of U.S. Women's Amateur

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Jordan Britt shot a 16-over 158 and did not qualify for match play of the U.S. Women’s Amateur being held at the Country Club of Charleston, S.C. The former GPS and Signal Mountain prep golfer shot a 7-over 78 in her second round Tuesday, which included a birdie on No. 8.

Battlefield club titles

Chase Deck won the Battlefield club championship by shooting rounds of 67 and 69. Matt Blackwell won the Championship B Flight, while Steve Wright, Mark St. John and Bill Cox won other flights. David Lawson won the senior club championship. Other senior flight champions included Charlie Kessler, Gene Baucom and Gary Alverson.

Griffith misses cut

Ooltewah senior Samantha Griffith qualified for the PGA of America Junior Championship but missed the cut in the girls’ division last week at Trump National in Washington, D.C. She shot 13-over 226 for three rounds. Boys’ champion Tyler McDaniel, of Manchester Ky., played in the Choo-Choo Invitational earlier in the week at Council Fire.

Brainerd has spots

Applications for the Brainerd Invitational are available at Brainerd Golf Course or at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com. The tournament will be held Aug. 17-18 with an entry fee of $135.

Area aces

Just ditto that: Jerry Roberts nailed his second hole-in-one on No. 7 at Valleybrook in four days last Friday, and as with the first one it was a 141-yard shot with his wife, Sonja, watching.

Nick McCracken scored his first hole-in-one Friday at Cleveland Country Club. He aced No. 9 from 141 yards with a 7-iron while playing with Drew Linkous, Darrell Linkous and Mitch McCracken.

Bill Fountain sank the second hole-in-one of his life Sunday at Moccasin Bend. It came on No. 6, playing 149 yards, with a pitching wedge and Wayne Younes, Steve Ballew and Robbie Harvey in his group.

Julian Sullivan also scored his second hole-in-one Sunday, but his was at Cleveland Country Club. He aced No. 17 from 155 yards with a 5-iron while playing with Russ Carmichael, Sidney Breaux and Eben DeArmond.

Josh Chapman made his first hole-in-one Monday at Valleybrook. He aced No. 16 with a 7-iron, covering 169 yards, with Robert Jacks as the witness.

Kandy Berke hit a hole-in-one Tuesday at Battlefield during the Chattanooga Women’s Golf Association’s weekly competition. Her ace came on No. 4.
