Coach: Mac Bryan (first year here, 106-97-1 in 17 years overall)
Last year: 9-4, lost 31-13 to Columbia in Class 5A state quarterfinals
'13 dreams: The Owls lost some key pieces from their state-quarterfinal team a season ago and are young at some spots, but they will still be expected to be a factor in the district and should at the very least qualify for the playoffs - where they've won at least one game in each of the past two seasons.
13 years ago: The biggest story for the Owls in 2000 was Patrick Flanagan, who was on his way to two all-state honors, as well as Mr. Football finalist. As a team, Ooltewah finished 6-6. Coach Bryan was an assistant at Pikeville College in Kentucky.
1-through-3 - Senior quarterback Brody Binder
Q. How have you adjusted to new head Coach Bryan?
A. I love Coach. He's more of a people person off the field; he interacts with us and you can tell he really cares.
Q. What did you learn in your first year as a starter?
A. I mainly learned leadership and how to take control and help when things are going wrong. We have a lot of young guys - two of our four main receivers are younger - and I have to be able to help out.
Q. How will the team be able to make another playoff run?
A. We just have to play together as a team. We got down on ourselves early and didn't play as well as we could, but if we play together as one, it will help us. We just have to pick each other up when we're down.

13-for-13 contibutors: With a year of experience under his belt, Troy baseball commit Brody Binder should be even better as the team's starting quarterback. His job will be made easier, though, by the presence of senior running back Desmond Pittman, who rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns on his way to all-state honors. On the defensive side, Jeremiah Jackson had 110 tackles as a freshman linebacker
