The Jailbreak

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

When you don't know what to do it is usually better to do nothing. In this case Obama's not knowing what to do works out to America's advantage. Continue supporting their military and let Egypt deal with Egypt's problems. It is probably better if Egypt's military is in control of the country instead of the Muslim brotherhood.

It may work out best if he did the same thing around other issues. After his Martha's Vineyard vacation he is making a bus tour with more speeches. He can't do much when he is on the road talking other than cause the stock market to drop every time he talks, a small price to pay compared to what he might do when in the Whitehouse.

Another example where doing nothing would have been better. Congress quickly passed bipartisan legislation to exempt federal employees including congress from Obamacare and the president quickly signed it so they could get a 75% supplement and keep their current coverage.

In next weeks speech I hope he includes a full explanation how that is fair and why Obamacare is not good enough for federal employees but required of those not exempt regardless of the impact. Will they be paying the Cadillac coverage tax? Remember this famous words "I can guarantee you that if you like your current healthcare and your current Dr. you can keep them, you will not be affected". The guarantee has been made good for federal employees and thousands of other favored supporters but the rest of us have not had any success using the guarantee.

No Federal employee gets to keep their current coverage. Every Federal employee, including Congress and their staff, will be picking a new policy through the Federal health care exchanges set forth under ObamaCare, beginning in October.

The only thing that was fixed was the 75% cost benefit for Congressional staffers, that was in limbo due to an error in the bill.

Why people are writing this crap about "exemptions" astounds me.

As for the President's current neutral position regarding Egypt, what else is the man supposed to do but to stay out of it?

Hasn't the United States stuck their nose in enough disputes lately, with little to nothing being accomplished? A decade in Iraq and Afghanistan have not stabilized a damn thing.

The United States has supported the Egyptian Military for decades, which is only guilty of attempting to restore order in a nation that was being overrun by religious zealots.

Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood are responsible for the current situation that find themselves in at the moment. Their determination to impose their deep Sunni form of Islam upon the entire population of Egypt is why Morsi is under house arrest.

The military in Egypt is the ONLY thing that has kept that nation from dissolving into an all out civil war, that may or may not happen in the future.

Obama is doing the right thing and he has the support of many in Congress who know it as well. The LAST thing that the United States needs to do is to take an official position, one way or the other.

August 16, 2013 at 8:58 a.m.

And the idolatrous obsession with conservative/liberal labels continues.

Meanwhile, churches and mosques are bombed, and Christians, Muslims, and secularists are terrorized and slaughtered by Islamists in Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East and Africa. Secularists will blame the non-secular victims. CINO idolaters will blame it on liberalism. The ahistorical provincials will propose isolationism The problems and their solutions lie far afield of any of the above.

Another capital-depleting day in Clay's sandbox.

The Muslim Brotherhood's credo reads as follows;

"Allah is our objective. The Quran is our law. The Prophet is our leader. Jihad is our way. And death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations."

"Islamic Sharia is the basis for controlling the affairs of state and society. Secondly, we will work to unify Islamic countries and states, mainly among the Arab states, to liberate them from foreign imperialism."

The above does not bode well for any argument that those aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood are peaceful, loving Muslims, but those who are aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood make up the dominant population of Egypt.

What is going on in Egypt is right the opposite of a problem we have in this nation. The religious right in this nation is in the minority, who are fighting to dominate the lawmaking process to impose their views on all of us, but the majority is preventing them from doing so, for the most part.

Look to what is going on in Egypt as a good reason why religion and Government should never, ever be mixed. Separation must be maintained, and any current progress that has been made, will be reversed in short order.

If only there were a way to load up the innocent people in the Middle East, get them out of there, and then drop a tainted egg on those who are waging war in the name of "Allah."

The world is tired of this crap.

It was another case of congress self accommodation just like the pay increases and perks they give themselves.

NBC reported it different than what you say is the case. Their report was that congress will keep what they have and are not eligible for a supplement therefore will not be required to use an exchange. I would not suggest NBC is any more reliable than your information so I am not saying they are right and you are wrong. I guess I am agreeing with one of the original supporters helping write the bill, it is a train wreck.

What do you think of the office of management and budget now saying that there are now 30 million without healthcare and on January 1, 2014 they expect the number to be 30 million. I assume the names will be changed to protect the innocent?

No Sir, that is not what you said. You presented his decision to publicly remain neutral, was entirely because "he doesn't know what to do," which appears to me to be a highly misplaced attack on his ability to make detrimental foreign policy decisions.

He's doing what can only be seen as the RIGHT thing to do. Stay the hell out of it and to continue to offer support to the only entity that has been responsible for stability in that nation, which is the Military.

Some people have opined for a year that the Muslim Brotherhood rising into power in Egypt was the responsibility of the President and Hillary Clinton. That claim is highly ridiculous.

The Egyptian people voted for Morsi, who fooled them into thinking that he was a moderate.

Once chosen as the new President, the United States had no choice but to attempt to work with him as the new leader who was Democratically elected.

When Morsi seized control, by decree, of Parliament, the President and much of the rest of the world's leaders publicly spoke out against it.

President Obama has never even met the man, nor with any of the Representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood when they came to Washington D.C., but that makes no difference to anyone who hates the President.

Ignorance continues to rule the minds of many.

The violence in Egypt, albeit a tragedy is better left for Egyptians to remedy - free from outside (re. western) agitation.

It does however presents the United States with quite the conundrum. Suspend ‘military aid’ (boy that’s an oxymoron isn’t it) to retain any sense of credibility? Or continue assistance under the guise that Egypt will never been able to support itself? There must be some truth to it after all; didn’t Secretary of State John Ketchup recently try to convince us all that the Egyptian army was ‘restoring democracy’.

Plleeezze!

The fact of the matter is that what’s between the buttons of the American Govt’s. overcoat is a cynical excuse to keep US weapons profits flowing.

The Koran and government should never be mixed. The Old Testament should never be used as a template for modern governments. The New Testament, never endorsing or condemning particular laws or forms of government, lays the foundation for free government and social reform. Modern democracy, the civil rights movement, the abolition of slavery and many other blessings we take for granted owe their existence to moral teachings of the New Testament. To marginalize or castigate them creates conditions for the crumbling of a civilization. So said America's founders and many other careful thinkers.

Romans chapter 1 tells us of the wrath of God on civilizations who disobey his moral laws. Homosexuality is prominently mentioned there as a true mark of societies that God has given up on. We have been there for some time.

Sexuality is CINO’s obsession. It is not the gospel. Jesus never once mentioned it. I can only conclude, as others have, that CINO’s obsession with homosexuality is based on either his repressed desires to be with other men or his closet involvement in such activity. I have doubts about the latter since it is clear is that he has not had sex with other humans in a long, long time.

Well, CINO is at least out of the closet as a theonomist, a pseudo-Christian rip-off of Muslim jihadism. He is as ill-skilled at reading ancient literature as are the ignoramuses who ridicule the Bible. Jesus never once advocated for secular governments to adopt Israel’s civil laws. Most theonomists are also neo-confederates. They are offended that the gospel brings liberty to captives (individuals and whole societies) and that the image of God is borne by non-whites. There is no Scripture they are unwilling to twist in order to relieve their guilty consciences about their unbelief. http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/ideology/neo-confederate/the-neo-confederate-movement

While repetition is not the most effective way to learn, but it can work with dunces like CINO. CINO is not God the Father. CINO is not God the Son. CINO is not God the Holy Spirit. If this be blasphemy, forever may I be found guilty.

CINO will one day face the true God and answer for His idolatry. And his pretended heterosexuality will be an insufficient answer for surviving God’s judgment. By God’s mercy and love in Christ, however, the door is open for his repentance and faith in the person and work of God Incarnate.

What did Obama SPECIFICALLY do, as a matter of foreign policy, in either of those countries, since he has been in office, to destabilize any one of them?

I don't believe he has stepped foot into any of the three in his entire life, much less as President.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:11-12

So now conservative is "persecuted". Strange, in this country where we have religious freedom, he comes on a voluntary forum, declares himself to be the one that gets to decide who is and who isn't a Christian, and HE calls that persecution?

Here's Creationists talking that dragons were real. This is what creationist want to teach in public schools. This is what Conservative believes; a literal Bible full of scientific facts.

See the danger with mental midgets like Conservative. What a crock! Fortunately, most Christians don't believe this stuff. But nonetheless, this is what Creationists believe.

Get the popcorn, have a cold beer, loosen your belt, and prepare to see the ignorance of fundamentalist idiots. WARNING: Viewing may cause spit takes and uncontrollable laughter.

Con man, you can post my statements until the world is on fire, but you have never once attempted to offer anything that would begin to refute my statements.

Specifically, you cannot refute my statements that if the Bible is accurate and 100% correct in all respects, that;

1.) Jesus could not have been God;

2.) That God did indeed commit mass murder of innocent life, and;

3.) That Jesus most definitely did sin.

As always, you are free as can be to disprove any one of those above statements, Biblically or otherwise, but you and I both know that you cannot.

You are trapped by your belief that the Bible is the "word of God."

I am not trapped by any such belief.

The Bible has much written within it, but any and all but a select few passages within that Bible are strictly the opinions of those who wrote and transcribed what which we read. Who knows what the authors were smoking at the time they wrote the things that are contained in it? Must have been some good stuff, that's for sure.

God had nothing at all to do with the Bible, nor did he command anyone to write a word contained in it.

Unless you have anything to offer that controverts what I have written, sit and spin for the rest of your life, for all I care.

Your problems will never become mine.

I was born with a brain, and I use it religiously, pun intended.

I think that if conservative really gets off on being persecuted for his beliefs, he should try living in Egypt. A good dose of reality and a better perspective is overdue.

lkeithlu, I'm convinced that the man has probably not been out of the room he lives in, in many years.

No one that screwed up would ever function outside of their closed environment.

The man has been asked repeatedly to proclaim his chosen platform of religion, which he has repeatedly ignored.

He compares himself to God all the time, which WWWTW has observed accurately.

His obsession with homosexuality reveals himself to be someone who is clearly in a deep, deep closet, living in a world of self-loathing.

I'm betting that the man is on disability, due to a mental disorder. He types in here, saves the posts, and prints them out on the off-chance that his case will come up for review by the Social Security Administration.

No one can be that messed up and have any kind of a productive life.

Alpo says of Con "I'm betting that the man is on disability, due to a mental disorder. He types in here, saves the posts, and prints them out on the off-chance that his case will come up for review by the Social Security Administration." That's some fairly heavy speculation on your part, Alpy.

Hey...you farted in the room a while ago. I asked you to back up your claim. Are you going to do that, or just leave the room smelling like the turd you dropped?

Sure Alpy. 95% of diplomacy is done behind the scenes. As to these countries mentioned, the diplomacy was either a. nonexistent, or b. failed. Any objective on looker would agree that the Obama foreign policy is a failure. SOS Clinton was useless, as is SOS Heinz.

Of course none can stand close to George W. Bush and his great foreign policies that kept us out of wars, foreign entanglements, and furthered the American system of peace throughout the world.

I do wonder if Dick Cheney ever got all the crap off his hands after being up GW's butt for eight years. Praise Holy Halliburton!

You're hardly objective. You are woefully ignorant, however.

Can you name any administration that had any positive diplomatic relations with Muammar Gaddafi, or Bashar al-Assad?

Hosni Mubarak, the former President of Egypt was kept in line only because of the U.S. Dollars pledged to Egypt, going all the way back to the 70's. Mubarak certainly did his part to resist Sharia Law, but he survived several assassination attempts on his life and only stepped down when protests got just as violent and as deadly as they were today.

He assumed the Presidency when Anwar Sadat was assassinated for daring to enter into a peace treaty with Israel.

Mubarak's Presidency was marred in the end by severe corruption, protectionism, and he was directly involved in the jailing of political rivals.

Obama met Hosni Mubarak in Washington in August of 2009, and the Egyptian President had nothing but good things to say about our President. He expressed very negative words about GWB.

Less than 18 months later, he would step down following protests by the Egyptian people, who were tired of police brutality, state of emergency laws, lack of free elections and freedom of speech, corruption, and economic issues including high unemployment, food price inflation and low wages.

Failed Foreign policy? Not even close. Mubarak, like Morsi, was a monger of power and the people had enough.

Egypt fell apart on it's own, with no one from the United States contributing one single solitary thing that caused it.

jes sayin' You have to give them credit. Unlike some governments, the Egyptian government isn't afraid to tell it like it is:

[T]he Egyptian Ministry of Interior, which oversees the police, announced that they would be issuing their officers live ammunition, with standing orders to shoot anyone who attempted to take over government buildings.

A spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Defense, Ahmed Ali, told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday that the security forces would continue to use all means at their disposal to quell protests and unrest. "When dealing with terrorism, the consideration of civil and human rights are not applicable," he said.

That's right. Protests, unrest and riots are now officially defined as terrorism. And "when dealing with terrorism, the consideration of civil and human rights are not applicable." See how easy that is?

I'll bet there are quite a few members of Western governments that envy such freedom and transparency...
