Quarterback AJ McCarron completed 15 of 30 passes for 152 yards with a touchdown and an interception as top-ranked Alabama conducted a 140-play scrimmage Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Dee Hart had 42 yards on seven carries and T.J. Yeldon had 39 on five to lead the tailbacks, and Christion Jones was the leading receiver with 37 yards on four catches. Sophomore receiver Amari Cooper sat out with a foot injury but could be back as soon as Tuesday.

"There was definitely a lot of improvement in a lot of players from the last scrimmage to this scrimmage, which is certainly what we try to accomplish," coach Nick Saban said, "but we also looked slow. It was our 19th practice."

Backup quarterback Blake Sims threw three interceptions. Saban has yet to name a third-team quarterback.

Linebackers Adrian Hubbard and C.J. Mosley led the defensive showing, with Hubbard making seven tackles and three sacks and Mosley tallying five tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan sat out with a sprained shoulder but is expected back Tuesday.

The Crimson Tide will take today and Monday off before resuming Tuesday. They will begin preparations for Virginia Tech on Thursday or Friday.

"I think two days off does a player a hundred times more good than one day off in terms of their ability to recover," Saban said.

Brandon Greene has moved from the offensive line out to tight end, while LaMichael Fanning is back on the defensive front after giving tight end a try.
