MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police in Memphis have arrested a woman whose disabled adult daughter was found in a hot car.
According to The Commercial Appeal, a police affidavit states 46-year-old Jennifer Cotton was charged Sunday with adult abuse, exploitation and neglect. A caller told police Cotton was trying to buy drugs and had left her 20-year-old daughter in her car. The daughter has cerebral palsy. Officers said the daughter was sitting in the back seat of the car. The windows were rolled up and the engine was not running.
The daughter was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, where doctors said she was severely malnourished.
Cotton was booked into the Shelby County Jail, where she was held in lieu of $5,000 bond with a court appearance scheduled for today.
