Gainesville, Ga., police shoot woman after traffic stop

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Authorities say Gainesville police shot a woman they say struck two officers while trying to flee from a traffic stop.

Police say the Gainesville officers were making a routine traffic stop on the woman when she tried to drive away, striking the officers around 4:30 a.m. today.

Police say the woman was shot and wounded. She was then taken into custody.

Gainesville police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the officers sustained minor injuries.

The Times of Gainesville reports that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on the scene of the shooting near Skelton and Bowman roads.

The suspect's identity and condition were not immediately available.
