David Butler heads Habitat chapter

David Butler, the former president of Olan Mills, has been named executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area.

A native of New York City, Butler has more than 30 years of business experience, including 10 years as head of Olan Mills' church division before being named company president in 2008.

Lebron Womack, chairman of the local Habitat chapter, said Butler should help "further our mission of transforming lives through building quality and affordable housing for working families."

The local chapter has built 244 homes since its start in 1986.

Post office closes Aug. 30

The Chattanooga East Lake Finance Station on East 34th Street will close at the end of the month.

Chattanooga Postmaster Pete Dechelle said that "due to the financial constraints" facing the Postal Service, the office is being consolidated with the South Station on West 40th Street where the lone employee of the East Lake office will be transferred.

"The Postal Service could not come to financial terms with the lessor," Dechelle said. There are no carriers at the East Lake station and delivery will not be impacted by the closing.

Black Creek adds builders

Four builders have joined the development team for Black Creek Mountain, the planned $500 million residential development in Tiftonia.

Dexter White, Hagaman Construction Co., Hill Haven Holdings/Nu Era Construction and P&C Construction are among the homebuilders selected for the new mountaintop development.

"We are excited to begin development of new homes as the community continues to grow," said Barry Calcarcel, a broker for Black Creek Mountain.
