Heritage Festival draws musicians to Bessie Smith

What: More than 850 people attended the annual Bessie Smith Heritage Festival, which brought jazz, world music, R&B and neo-soul musicians to town for two days of performances.

Benefits: The festival is a community cultural arts program sponsored by Bessie Smith Cultural Center.

Realtors donate $10,000 to Childrens Hospital

What: Representatives from the RE/MAX office on Shallowford Road recently made a $10,000 donation to Children's Hospital at Erlanger as part of its partnership with the Children's Miracle Network.

Benefits: Since 1992, RE/MAX associates and offices across the United States have raised $123 million through fundraising initiatives to support CMN hospitals. Chattanooga agents participate in the Miracle Home program, donating a portion of each home sale to Children's Hospital at Erlanger, one of 170 nonprofit children's hospitals affiliated with Children's Miracle Network.

$10,000 donation helps fund children's wishes

What: Affordable Botox of Chattanooga made a $10,000 donation to help fund the wishes of critically ill children through Make-A-Wish of East Tennessee. The donation was raised through the Affordable Botox Run for Wishes.

About Make-a-Wish: The nonprofit says fulfilling wishes costs, on average, $7,000 per wish. This year Make-a-Wish will grant about 80 wishes for local children.

SunTrust Foundation supports UTC College of Business

What: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Business has received a $50,000 donation from the SunTrust Foundation to establish an endowed scholarship program in support of undergraduate female students majoring in finance.

Benefits: The SunTrust Foundation Scholarship will be awarded annually to two junior women. Selection will be based on an extensive application and interview process, academic performance, leadership experience, extracurricular and community activities. Scholarship recipients will participate in a number of academic enrichment experiences provided through the UTC College of Business' Galtere Institute: Finance for the Future Initiative. The institute focuses on helping high-potential young women develop the skills and leadership experience to successfully pursue careers in the finance sector.
