Capital Bank gives free gas Thursday
Locally based Capital Bank is giving away $4,000 in gasoline as it takes part in a national initiative called "Take Back Your Banking" to contrast local community banks and credit unions from the "too-big-to-fail megabanks."
On Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Kangaroo Express, 3740 Tennessee Ave., bank employees will pump gas to raise awareness about how local banks fuel economies.
In partnership with Kasasa.com, a resource for free checking accounts with monthly rewards offered at community banks and credit unions, 38 financial institutions will showcase the benefits they offer. Other participating cities include Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, St. Paul, Minn., and Portland, Ore.
St. Barnabas changes names
After 48 years as St. Barnabas Senior Living Services, the elderly care center is changing its name to St. Barnabas Healthcare Center. The board announced the name change Tuesday to reflect the change of the facility since its sale last year and its exit from the assisted living and retirement apartments previously housed at St. Barnabas. The facility now focuses on rehabilitation therapy along with traditional long-term care.
"This small but significant name change is important to furthering the reach of our brand," said Gaines Campbell, chairman of the Siskin Drive facility.
