Man, woman killed near Lake Lanier in Georgia in gunfire involving officer

BUFORD, Ga. - A man and a woman have been killed in a shooting that involved a police officer near Lake Lanier.

Gwinnett County police say officers were called to a report of a domestic dispute on Old Shadburn Ferry Road near Buford around 12:36 a.m. today.

Police say an officer was walking toward the residence when he saw a female approaching him in the driveway.

Police say a male suspect then shot the female in the back and she fell to the ground as the officer opened fire on the suspect. Police say the suspect fell to the ground and fired another shot. The officer wasn't hurt.

Police had not determined whether the man died from the officer's shot or from a self-inflicted gunshot.

"We're not sure at this point," Gwinnett police Sgt. Brian Doan told reporters at the scene. "We're not sure if the officer struck the male with his rounds."

Names of the people involved haven't been released, and few other details were immediately available early today.
