Alabama teen dies in wreck with school bus

ASHVILLE, Ala. - Authorities say an east Alabama teenager is dead after a wreck involving a school bus.

St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell tells WBRC-TV that 17-year-old Ashley Cartier died in the wreck early today. She was a student at Ashville High School.

Authorities say a school bus had stopped to pick up its first rider of the day when Cartier's car crashed into its rear end and went underneath.

Ashville Police Chief Dennis Matthews say the wreck happened just before 7 a.m.

Grief counselors were on hand at Ashville High School afterward, and assistant principal Jeff Hardy says a pep rally was canceled.
