For Soddy-Daisy football coach Justin Barnes, the week is finally over. Somewhat.

Leading up to the Trojans' game Thursday night against rival Red Bank -- Barnes' alma mater -- his pregnant wife Becca's water broke around 2 a.m. Monday. Brinkley Barnes entered the world about 2:30 Monday afternoon. And the week only got better after the Trojans won 21-7 over the Lions at the newly named Robert Talaska Field in Soddy-Daisy.

Quarterback Hunter Maynor threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, including two scores to sophomore Tre Carter as the Trojans improved to 2-0. It was a win that looked like it would be anything but in the early going, as the Trojans offense had three turnovers in the first quarter alone -- two fumbles and an interception.

Barnes praised the defense, which limited the Lions to seven first-half points, for keeping the team in the game.

"We're lucky we've been playing good defense," Barnes said. "Over the past two weeks, we've held two pretty athletic teams (Hixson and Red Bank) to seven points apiece."

They did their best in neutralizing electric Red Bank quarterback Michael Robinson, who finished with 105 yards rushing and the Lions' only score. Red Bank had a total of eight fumbles, losing two, plus an interception. They also had two touchdowns called back -- a 90-yard kickoff return and 23-yard pass play -- due to penalties, plus dropped a first-half touchdown pass in the end zone on fourth down.

Soddy-Daisy also had two first-half touchdowns taken away, as well as an interception. The defense limited the Lions (0-2) to 86 yards of offense in the second half, giving Maynor a chance to warm up. He finished 20-for-31, tying the game with a toss to Alex Roberts in the third quarter, then had back-to-back scoring tosses to Carter, the go-ahead score coming with 8:12 remaining.

"That first touchdown really jump-started us," said Carter, who had six catches for 107 yards. "Coach Barnes told us at halftime that we weren't out of the game -- to keep our heads up, play our game and we'd turn out fine."

Soddy-Daisy hosts Ooltewah next week, while the Lions get Brainerd at home.
