HOOVER, Ala. — Police in Hoover are investigating a fatal shooting at an Iron Bowl party.
Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis tells al.com a woman was shot and died at the scene. Shelby County Coroner Diana New identified the woman as 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd of Birmingham.
Derzis says the two women, both Alabama fans, got into an argument shortly after the game ended. It turned physical and spilled into the parking lot. Both women ended up on the ground and one pulled a gun.
The woman who police believe is the shooter was taken into custody. Derzis says the case will be presented to the district attorney's office Monday to determine whether charges will be filed.
Derzis says the women didn't know each other and police hadn't confirmed what started the fight.
