Two markers, one commemorating the old trolley car that brought residents and domestic workers to the houses along Missionary Ridge and another for the elementary school that once stood near Bragg Reservation were placed Tuesday.

Ron Morris, former Missionary Ridge Neighborhood Association board president, helped get grants from the city while on the board. He and his father, Gene, dug the holes and set them in concrete this week.

The trolley marker, which includes photos of the car and a map of the route it took, as well as information about its history, was placed at the park where Bird's Mill Road meets the junction of North and South Crest roads. The trolley used to come up Bird's Mill before crossing South Crest and heading down Ridge Road.

Morris said he worked with Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park rangers to determine a location for the school marker.

"Hopefully they will be an asset to the walking community on Missionary Ridge and to all of the visitors who come here," Morris said.
