Even if it's held at a different location on different days and times this month, there's one thing that will never change: Chattanooga Market is the place to go for gifts and food.

The market's third annual Chattanooga Holiday Market, which moves indoors to the Chattanooga Convention Center the next three weekends, will offer locally produced arts and crafts, regionally made breads and food products, as well as entertainment and food vendors.

The market will feature more than 150 vendors who sell a variety of products from all-natural health lotions and soaps to apparel items, wood works, canvas arts, photography and homemade prepared foods. Live entertainment and other festivities will be ongoing.

The emphasis will be on holiday gift buying, says market spokeswoman Melissa Siragusa. "We'll have holiday music and various food sampling. We want folks to think about buying local handmade gifts to give unique and thoughtfully as well as support our local economy."

A full schedule of events is available online at Holi day.ChattanoogaMarket.com. Highlights on opening weekend, Dec. 7-8, include visits with Santa Claus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days and a performance by the Chattanooga Girls Choir at noon Saturday.

Chris Thomas, executive director of Chattanooga Market, says the addition of an indoor Chattanooga Market was made at the request of "patrons who wanted to shop closer to the holidays for handmade gifts."

"It has grown each year," he says, "and this will be our first year to remain open every weekend in December, leading right up to Christmas."

The additional weekends provide an opportunity for the nonprofit market to extend its support of area artists before the 2014 regular season reopens in April, Thomas says.
