Georgia man sentenced to 18 months for planting drugs on car

ROME, Ga. - A northwest Georgia man has been sentenced to a year and a half in prison for planting drugs on a woman's car in an effort to get her arrested.

Federal prosecutors said Friday that Clifford J. Joyce of Dalton planted methamphetamine on the woman's car in August 2012. The woman was charged with drug possession following a traffic stop, but the case was later dismissed.

The woman had accused then-Murray County Chief Magistrate Judge Bryant Cochran of making sexual advances during a meeting in July 2012. Prosecutors say Joyce, who was sentenced Friday, conspired to frame the woman to discredit her and hid a metal tin containing methamphetamine in the tire well of her car. Cochran has not been charged.

Joyce pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.
