about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

It is being pushed by trickle 'up' adherents; by the rich, and by those they have deceived. It is laissez-faire capitalism, economic & social Darwinism disguised with catchy patriotic phrases like freedom and liberty.

It is - Libertarianism.

Social security accounting has been allocated to nothing other than social security benefits. LBJ began including social security in the general fund instead of tracking it separately. There has never been actual money set aside, it is all accounting with credits for taxes collected and debits for benefits paid. It is a Ponzi scheme with each recipient getting more over the average life of recipients than is paid in. Participating people would get better results buying an insured and guaranteed annuity.

"Trickle down" works. The Pope recently mentioned something about this. Like most lefties, he's a hypocrite. The Pope is ignorant, or in denial. The Catholic Church is swimming in wealth, which enables it to help the poor around the world.

If you destroy the wealthy, and punish those who achieve it, then you're damaging the poor. To believe anything else is illogical, and a joke. Wealthy lefties, like Bill Gates, Oprah and others, could give every struggling family money to pay for their mortgages or their children's college education, and it wouldn't make dent in their wealth. They'll just get more. They could bale out whole communities that are struggling.

December 15, 2013 at 12:52 p.m.

We have a jackass in the White House who caters to his wealthy friends and donars, and who doesn't even have the brains to know how bad he'll come taking "selfies" at a memorial service for a well respected world leader, bitching about "trickle down". So when he gives the cue, drones like Bennett head to the drawing boards and keyboards. Democrats are hypocrites of the worst kind.

There's no denying that, except for saving the auto industry (and no matter how you righties try to spin it that WAS a good thing), Obama is not going to go down in history for doing anything positive for the economy. But the FACT is that, even factoring in Obamacare and the stimulus package of his first term, there has been far less government spending and far fewer government jobs created under him than under Reagan, Bush I, or Bush II.

And as for whether "trickle down" really works or not, all you have to do is look at one statistic: the ever-widening disparity between the top 1%-2% and the rest of the country. Ever since Reagan came on the scene that gap began increasing and has grown steadily ever since, to the point where it stands now, with the those at the top making 200-300 times, even as much as 400 times what the average worker makes. Trickle down does not work and we have had over 30 years of trying it. Even Clinton, whose only liberal deed was to raise taxes slightly (which had an immediate positive effect by the way), embraced Reaganomics and "trickle down," killing Glass-Steagall and pushing NAFTA.

It's funny to hear you RWNJs constantly screaming about how liberalism is ruining this country and how socialistic redistribution of the wealth is "evil," but we have been caught in the death grip of extreme conservatism for over 30 years, with wealth not just being distributed upward but literally GUSHING upward, with nothing but crumbs trickling down.

Al, you make an excellent point. The thing with the last recession, as bad as it was for millions of people, is that it still left the vast majority of Americans unscathed, and so many of them are in denial or completely oblivious as to how many are still suffering from it. They don't or won't admit that the jobs that were lost are not coming back and that there really is a horrendous job shortage. And instead of acknowledging that most of those people lost their jobs and/or savings through no fault of their own, they keep making the argument that it was all their fault and all they need to do is pull themselves up by their boot straps, don't be too proud to flip burgers, and work two or three minimum-wage jobs if need be. But even if a person does that, there is very little out there for them to progress to, very little chance of getting out of the vicious poverty cycle. There are still at least 3 times more job applicants than there are jobs.

The only hope for waking these arrogant, callous, and indifferent people up is for the same to happen to them. We probably won't have to wait much longer for that to happen. If they keep pushing austerity and waiting for the "miracle hand" of the free market to work its magic and turn the economy around, without some serious government policies to get it going in the right direction, the next big crash will be upon us very soon. And it will most likely be far worse and more devastating than the last.

“Trickle down economics,” like “capitalism,” is a false label used by class warriors to create the illusion that the social classes simply consist of the 1% and the 99% and that the two groups are destined to perpetual violent conflict until the entire population is equally rewarded for unequal efforts and unequal capital investments. The result of attempts to implement this de-humanizing fantasy is a system based on the violent acquisition of power. A society where capital is created at a variety of levels and flows peacefully in multiple directions is inconceivable to those who feed on envy, blame-shifting, and revenge.

WWWTW, the only reason anybody is talking about a division of classes, such as the 1% and the 99% is due to the fact that income disparity has reached such outrageous proportions, starting with Reagan and culminating in the insane, unhealthy disparity that exists today. If we had maintained a more rational balance all along, with a strong and prosperous middle class, we would be having no such debates about class distinctions, let alone class "warfare."

Almost all economic theory holds that when the economy is struggling then “pump priming” or stimulus is required to jump start increased economic activity. There are two major ways to accomplish that function with Conservatives and Fleabaggers naturally adopting opposing viewpoints.

Both involve the federal government borrowing money to fund the stimulus thus creating a budget deficit supposedly until the economy grows enough to eliminate it through increased income as a result of the growth.

The Fleabaggers believe in the federal government taking the funds and expending them on government work. On the other hand the Conservatives believe that a portion of the taxpayers taxes be returned to them for their individual consumption or investment needs.

The problem with these theories is both groups over-estimate their needs for funding and the economy typically can’t outgrow the deficit. As a result there is great resistance to reduce the government growth or to raise taxes due to their negative effect on the economy (where we are now ... it’s all trickle down).

My position is that the government spending the funds for the most part only increases it’s size and intrusion, unnecessarily, in the citizens affairs they should address themselves. On the other hand the Fleabaggers rage about the rich getting all of the tax breaks thus transferring the greater part of our wealth to them.

The questions are; Is it “our” wealth? Does the government own you and your assets? Under the “Bush” tax cuts all levels of income got tax breaks and those not paying taxes got increased tax credits. The fact is that the top 25% of income earners pay about 86% of all federal income taxes but only got about 68% of the tax cuts. Since the “Bush’ tax took effect the “Rich” have paid a greater share of all income taxes as well as a higher percentage of their income in taxes.

The enemy forces who are wanting the US Government out of their way for letting them prove the worth of the 2nd Admendment after this country were to fall into another great depression. SO, in my opinion if an anarchy was to occur it would not be an istant occurrence. There are real similarities between the 1929 great depression Republican' policies and their objectives/policies toward taking the roles of the US Government out of the way. I have to question what your judgment is about what would have been the results if another Republican President and the Congress had been elected in1932 instead of FDR? The 1929 great depression had been getting worse for 4 years before FDR took over in 1933. Have you and the enemies of this President done their homework on what would have happened if FDR had not been elected? The SAME could be said about the conditions caused by the 2007 deep recession. Most likely the same except none of it was very effective. It wasn’t until after WW2 when we retained the world’s only first world manufacturing base that we truly exited the depression.

From Wiki:

The Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) was an independent agency of the United States government, established and chartered by the US Congress in 1932, Act of January 22, 1932, c. 8, 47 Stat. 5, during the administration of President Herbert Hoover. It was continued by the New Deal and played a major role in handling the Great Depression in the United States and setting up the relief programs that were taken over by the New Deal in 1933.

The total loaned or otherwise disbursed by the RFC from 1932 through 1941 was $9.465 billion.

Starting in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt kept the agency, increased the funding, streamlined the bureaucracy, and used it to help restore business prosperity, especially in banking and railroads.

The RFC also had a division that gave the states loans for emergency relief needs....which Roosevelt used to pump money into the state's relief program by extending loans to businesses and local government projects. Although charges of political influence and racial discrimination were levied against RFC activities, the agency made positive contributions and established a federal agency in local communities which provided a reservoir of experienced personnel to implement expanding New Deal programs.

FDR had great press ... it’s as simple as that.

Here's a few facts about Reaganomics or trickle down economics. When Reagan was elected the unemployment number was 10.8%. When he left office 5.3%.Inflation was 11.3% to almost non existence. Interest rates were 21.5% to around 5%.Real income fell 10% before, increased 18% after. GDP growth of 30%,6.8 percent in 1984 alone.20 million jobs created in 7 years, 16% drop in poverty, all this with no stimulus. The stock market tripled with no QE policy's. 92 month non recession streak, the longest in history. So like it or not TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS work.

Poor people are afraid to support a third party so they keep choosing between the best smoke blower of the two parties. All it gets them is more poverty.

The president made an honest mistake when he said "if you like your healthcare plan you can keep it, period". What he intended was "if I like your healthcare plan you will be allowed to keep it maybe". It's the teleprompters fault. Ask Valery Jarrett if you don't believe that.

Fairmon, so, you want the voters to be against this president using the teleprompter? Of course President Obama left him open to a situation that the insurance companies made sure that when they canceled the HC insurance policies that did not meet the standards, that they had been collecting money from the consumers under false pretences of what the coverages were. Was the Affordable HC plan better for the consumers or not? This did not matter to the enemies of this President. All that mattered to the enemies was that they wanted to convince the voters that President Obama had deliberately lied. It was an easy setup, but proved not to be an impeachable cause. Getting the people convinced that President Obama is the person who wants to destroy this Republic has been a "hard row to hoe" and they have failed to put the blame on OBAMA fo doing what their objectives are.

Volsam, If you're president when oil prices double (like Carter) you're a fool and if you're the president when oil prices fall to half you are Reagan. No brilliance required. Every one knows that the only thing that trickles down is excrement.
