Barbara Shepherd named new principal at DuPont Elementary

Barbara Shepherd will become principal at DuPont Elementary in January after current Principal Janice Scott retires.

Superintendent Rick Smith announced the change Monday. Scott said she is retiring at the end of the year for personal reasons. She previously served as an assistant principal at East Brainerd Elementary and principal at Snow Hill Elementary. She has been a Hamilton County educator for 34 years.

“I have enjoyed all of them,” she said. “This is kind of bittersweet. My husband is having some health issues, so I have to retire. I do hate to go, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Shepherd is currently the assistant principal at Brown International Academy. She will take the reins at DuPont on Jan. 6.
