Father charged in baby's death in Alabama released on bond

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Jackson County, Ala., Sheriff Chuck Phillips remained tight-lipped on Monday in the October battering death of a Pisgah, Ala., baby, but court records show investigators believe the infant's father intentionally and fatally injured her.

Marcus Shane Anderson, 18, of Pisgah, was charged Friday with murder in the death of 2-month-old Kaisley Phaith Anderson. He now is free after posting $50,000 bond, according to the sheriff.

The autopsy showed the baby died of "traumatic head injuries," but Phillips would not elaborate on details of the injuries or where the incident happened.

The sheriff also would not say how the injuries are believed to have happened, beyond the findings in the autopsy.

A copy of the grand jury indictment issued Dec. 11 charging Anderson with murder states that he killed his daughter "by throwing the infant down, resulting in a traumatic head injury."

The incident happened Oct. 24 and the baby died Oct. 26 at Huntsville Hospital after being flown there for treatment, according to Jackson County authorities.

Phillips said the autopsy was performed in October, and the Jackson County grand jury issued the indictment last Wednesday.

Family members could not be reached for comment.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Jackson County Department of Human Resources investigated the death.
