Howard High School has named Mark Teague as its new head football coach. Teague worked as defensive coordinator last season at East Ridge and has previously been an assistant at prep schools in Alabama and Arkansas.

Last year at East Ridge, Teague's defense held six opponents to fewer than 20 points, including one shutout. Pioneers coach Tracy Malone praised Teague for his organizational abilities on a week-to-week basis, adding he believed Coach Teague was ready to be a head coach.

"There's no mistake, it'll be a challenge," Teague said. "It will take time to get the program back where we want it. But the school has a rich tradition and we just have to get the kids to buy into what we're building. It won't happen overnight, but we're going to work at it."
