ROME, Ga. - Federal prosecutors say a former west Georgia school teacher has been sentenced to three years in prison on child pornography charges.

Authorities say Joseph Monroe Wilson, who was accused of ordering and collecting child pornography, was sentenced Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Wilson ordered sexually explicit images of young boys from a Canadian company between February and March 2011. The United States Postal Service executed a federal search warrant at his house in Paulding County in March 2012.

Authorities say Wilson, originally of Spartanburg, S.C. taught at New Georgia Elementary School in Villa Rica and was in the process of adopting a 7-year-old boy at the time.

A judge ordered Wilson to serve 30 years of supervised release after his sentence and register as a sex offender.
