Chattanooga's Scott Stevens was the Tennessee Golf Association's Harold Eller Junior Player of the Year for 2013, and Maggie Scott from Charleston was the state's Women's Senior Amateur Player of the Year for the 11th time since the award was established in 2000. Scott won her ninth women's senior state amateur title -- and 10th state amateur title overall -- with a four-stroke victory this year at Ridgeway Country Club. Boxing

• Chattanooga native Ryan Martin is scheduled for his second professional boxing fight Friday night at Resorts World Casino NYC in Queens, where three months ago he won his pro lightweight debut by knockout. The winner of 12 national amateur titles while representing Chattanooga's YCAP program had a scheduled Nov. 9 fight canceled because his opponent didn't make weight. Now 20 and fighting out of Cleveland, Ohio, under the promotion of Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Martin is set to fight Eric Jamar Goodall (1-2) of Las Vegas on Friday's "Big Apple Boxing" card. "It's very exciting to be fighting on the big stage in New York City," Martin said in a recent release. "I just take one fight at a time, but it was frustrating in November when my fight was canceled. What I'm learning as a pro is general ring knowledge."

• Taylor Hawkins from Sequoyah High School in Madisonville, Tenn., was one of two recruits from the early signing period announced this week by Carson-Newman men's basketball coach Chuck Benson. The other was 6-foot-4 guard Mason Bates from Cookeville High. Hawkins, a 6-3 guard, averaged 19.4 points and 8.2 rebounds a game last year for Sequoyah and already is a two-time All-Monroe County selection. He's averaging 14.5 points and 6.4 rebounds so far in his senior season. "He's athletic and has perimeter skills, plus he just has tremendous work ethic," Benson said in a CNU release. Hawkins has a 3.6 grade point average.
