Man found dead next to I-40 in Roane County

A man in his 40s was found dead Christmas morning on the side of Interstate 40 in Roane County.

Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatchers received a call around 2:30 a.m. Christmas morning that a man was lying on the side of the road. They and other investigative agencies responded.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol news release states that initial evidence suggests the man, whose identity was still unknown Wednesday afternoon, “either jumped or fell from a moving vehicle and his body was then struck by at least one other vehicle.”

No vehicles were found in the vicinity of the body.

The body was taken to the medical examiner's office, and identification is pending.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol asks anyone with information about the incident to call its Knoxville headquarters at 865-594-5800.

The incident is under an ongoing investigation.
