Former Chattanooga Free Press executive sports editor Roy Exum will be one of two longtime newspapermen in the 2014 class of inductees into the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's Hall of Fame. Exum, who worked for the News-Free Press (later Free Press) for more than three decades and now writes columns for chattanoogan.com, is going into the hall with Larry Woody, who wrote for The Tennessean in Nashville for 37 years, on July 10 at Cumberland University in Lebanon. John Adams of the Knoxville News Sentinel also will be formally inducted then, according to a recent TSWA release, but he was voted into the 2013 class.

Golf

• Tennessee Tech men's golf coach Polk Brown recently announced the signing last month of Chattanooga's Alexander Riddle for his program. The Notre Dame High School senior's commitment to the Golden Eagles previously had been reported. "Alexander is going to be an outstanding addition to our team," Brown said in a TTU website posting. "He is a very dedicated player and hard worker. I look forward to seeing him contribute to our squad immediately." Riddle helped the Irish win the 2011 Class A/AA state tournament and was the state runner-up by one stroke in 2012. He finished fifth this year in his second season as team captain. "Not only is Alexander an excellent golfer, but he is a team leader and a mentor to younger golfers," Notre Dame coach Jeff Fisher said in the Tech release. Said Riddle: "I really like what Coach Brown is doing with the program, and I can't wait to get there and contribute to the team."

Basketball

• Six players scored from 12 to 15 points as the Central Methodist University women's basketball team beat Hiwassee 97-49 Saturday on Trevecca Nazarene's court in Nashville. CMU, which is ranked 19th in NAIA Division I, jumped to a 47-14 halftime lead in improving to 9-3 for the season. Haylee Morrow scored 23 points with four 3-point baskets for Hiwassee (2-8), which got 12 points and nine rebounds from Halei Lequire and eight rebounds from Nikki Dean. The Lady Tigers shot 27.1 percent from the field.
