MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Daily News Journal is selling its downtown Murfreesboro building and plans to move to another space near the city's main square.

The newspaper reports that its current building has more than 27,000-square-feet, while only about 5,000-square feet are needed for newsroom and business offices.

The paper's printing presses, composing room, classified department and other operations have previously been moved offsite.

Kevin Huff, the newspaper's vice president for finance, said The Daily News Journal has "always considered it a badge of honor" to have its offices in a historic downtown building. But an increasing focus on digital business has decreased the amount of office space needed.

The Daily News Journal, which is owned by Gannett Co., has been headquartered in Rutherford County throughout its 164-year history.
