Tennessee police investigate horse shooting

DYERSBURG, Tenn. - Investigators in Tennessee are looking into why someone shot and killed a horse on a farm.

Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box told The State Gazette a poacher may have mistaken the 3-year-old Appaloosa filly for wildlife and fired the fatal shot.

Box says the owners of the horse found it dead Thursday morning from what appeared to be a small gunshot wound above its left eye.

Box says the horse was in training for barrel racing and valued at more than $2,500.
