Big Brothers Big Sisters honors volunteers

• What: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga held its Mentor Appreciation party at The Chattanoogan. About 75 volunteers were thanked.

• Honorees: Each case manager nominated a “‘Big’ of the Year.” Receiving awards were Johnnie Hoskins Jr., Azurae Johnson, Matthew Redmond, Dale Vander Woude, Mari Vander Woude and Josh Patton.

Old gowns out on the town at Moth Ball

• What: More than 600 women attended the second Moth Ball at Stratton Hall. The female-only fundraiser’s dress code promotes pulling old prom gowns, wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses or any retro fashion out of mothballs to wear again.

• Benefits: The party raised about $20,000 for the Family Violence Center operated by the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults.

Singers support Boehm Center

• What: Members of the Choo Choo Chorus, Chattanooga’s barbershop harmony affiliate, presented a check for $11,115to the Walter Boehm Birth Defects Center.
