After a week of speculation that East Ridge City Manager Tim Gobble would be fired or would resign tonight, Gobble is not attending the council’s agenda session tonight.

He resigned the post Thursday, he told a Times Free Press reporter. The City Council later voted to accept his resignation.

Sitting in his place instead at the meeting is Deputy City Manager and Public Safety Director Eddie Phillips.

Before the meeting, city councilmen had discussed that they were negotiating a buyout with Gobble, in which he would resign in return for a portion of his severance pay instead of being fired.
