A former Monroe County, Tenn., court employee was arrested Friday because law enforcement officials say he kept some of the money that his office collected.
Norman Bruce Arp, 49, of Sweetwater, Tenn., was indicted earlier this week on charges of official misconduct and theft over $1,000. Arp, a former administrative assistant for the Circuit Court clerk, withheld some of the money given to his office between February 2012 and September, according to a news release.
After a state audit revealed the theft, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations investigated. Arp told officers he stole because he fell on hard times, according to the news release, but he since has made resitution.
Arp was released from the Monroe County Jail on Friday after paying a $10,000 bond.
