LaFayette man charged with child molestation

LaFayette, Ga., police arrested a local man on child molestation charges Thursday.

Officers say a 6-year-old girl told them that Randy Lamar Alexander, 36, sexually molested her within the last month. Alexander, of 318 Cedar St., also was charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Alexander met the girl because he was in a relationship with her mother, Capt. Stacey Meeks said. The child told her mother of the alleged molestation, and the mother reported it to police Tuesday.

Meeks said Alexander at first denied the charges, but on Wednesday he confessed during a polygraph test. Officers transferred him to Erlanger hospital to undergo a psychological evaluation later that day before taking him to the Walker County Jail on Thursday.

In March 1998, Alexander pleaded guilty to armed robbery in Whitfield County, Ga., according to the clerk of court. He spent 12 years in prison.

Alexander was released from jail Thursday after paying a $15,000 bond.
