Baylor School swam to its seventh consecutive girls' championship and eighth successive combined title in the Tennessee High School Swimming & Diving Championships held this weekend at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee, and Baylor also won the boys' championship after finishing second in 2012.
Baylor's Kristen Vredeveld won the girls' 50-yard free style in 22.91 seconds and the 100 free in 49.57, and fellow senior Hannah Peiffer won the 200 individual medley in 2:05.10 and the 100 backstroke in 54.18 with teammate Kimberlee John-Williams second in 54.80. The three were part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays with Bree Roman, who won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.44, and Annie Kollevoll, Maggie Stovall, Emeline Lochmaier and Mikaya Reynolds were second in the 400 free relay.
John-Williams also was second in the 100 butterfly with Kollevoll fourth and GPS's Kristen Myers fifth, and Reynolds was fourth in the 200 IM.
Baylor won the girls' team title with 388 points to 316 for second-place Harpeth Hall, with Brentwood a distant third at 165. GPS was sixth with 108.
The Baylor boys won with 286 compared to 198 for runner-up Montgomery Bell Academy.
Sam McHugh and Chandler Hinson paced the boys' championship, McHugh winning the 200 IM in 14:48.00 and finishing second in 4:25.97 in the 500 free and Hinson winning the 100 free in 46:01 (with teammate Christian Selby fourth in 46.52) after finishing fourth in the 200 free.
Luke Kaliszak, Selby, Dustin Tynes and Hinson won the 200 free relay in 1:24.37, and Koliszak, Tynes, McHugh and Will Raines were second in the medley relay. McHugh, Selby, Raines and Hinson were second in the 400 free relay. Koliszak was second individually in the 50 free in 21.21 and sixth in the 100 backstroke, and Tynes was sixth in the 100 breast with Arts & Sciences' Chris Butler eighth.
Signal Mountain's Mathias Porter won the 100 breast in 56.35 and was sixth in the 200 IM, and teammate Marissa Roth and Baylor's Emily Pelletier were first and second in the girls' 1-meter diving. McCallie's Michael Howell was second in boys' diving.
