They were the first wins for the school as a university. Only one of the first-game runs off Chattanooga State transfer Cassie Lyons was earned, and Sara Kelley from Ooltewah High School and Caitlyn Lance from Ridgeland each was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kelley doubled twice, Lance once. Basketball

• Freshman Chadarryl Clay from Girls Preparatory School made her first career start for Auburn University on Sunday and had six assists with six points in a 65-57 Southeastern Conference home loss to Florida. Clay started at point guard in place of injured Najat Quardad. Clay's 3-point shot with 14:15 to go tied the score at 35 for Auburn (13-11, 2-9), but the Gators (15-9, 4-6) then went on a 12-3 run and led the rest of the way.

• After their 78-69 loss to West Georgia Tech last Friday in LaGrange, Ga., the Northwestern Georgia Lady Bobcats are a half-game behind the Lady Golden Knights (5-1 to 4-1) in NJCAA Region XVII play. GNTC, which won the region tournament and went on to the national event last year, can create a first-place tie by winning Saturday at 2 p.m. against Middle Georgia Tech in a doubleheader with the men's teams at the Rossville Athletic Complex. A Lady Cats victory would lead to a coin flip to determine the top seed for the national qualifier, since the Lady Cats and Lady Golden Knights split their two meetings. Some proceeds from the remaining GNTC home games will go to tornado relief in Adairsville and nearby areas recently hit.
